Fun Facts

We thought it would be fun to have a page of Erin and Thomas trivia so you could learn more about us.

Want to know something about us that isn’t covered on this page? Send us an email and ask!

THE MUSIC WE LOVE:

Erin:  Really, we listen to lots of different music.  We love music at our house.  Thomas makes me a new playlist for special occasions.  I love listening to them.

MY STRANGEST POSSESSION IS:

Thomas:  My wisdom teeth, on display in a small container.  Weird, I know.  Okay, so they’re not really on display.  My dentist gave them to me when they were extracted.

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT:

Erin:  This is a hard one because I love to eat out.  Some places I love include Brick Oven (you can never go wrong with a local pizza parlor!), Zupas (soup and sandwich), and Olive Garden.

THE MEMORY THAT STILL MAKES ME LAUGH:

Erin:  When we were both single, Thomas wrapped himself in a (big) box and gave himself as a surprise birthday present to an apartment of girls.

Thomas:  When I first took Erin out on dates, I would get so nervous that I would break out in HUGE cold sweats (dripping, disgusting sweat). Erin just thought I was a “sweater.” Luckily I calmed down after we dated for a while (thanks to Erin for hanging in there) and the sweating stopped.

HOW WE GOT ENGAGED:

Thomas:  After seeing the river Siene in Paris, France, Erin thought the ideal engagement would take place in a boat on that river.  Since I was too poor to afford a trip to France, I thought the Provo River was the next best thing, so I told Erin we needed to take a canoe trip as reconnisaince for a future rafting trip. Erin went along without suspecting anything because I was calm about the whole thing (see a memory that still makes me laugh, above). About halfway down the river, I got on my knees in the middle of the canoe and said, “It’s not the river Siene, but will you marry me?” Erin kept asking me if I was serious, and once I convinced her of that, she said yes. Then we had to pull over to the bank so she could catch her breath.

HAVE WE BEEN OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES?

erin_york_study_abroad

Erin has been to England and France as part of a study abroad program. She also claims Texas as a separate country. It must be a Texas thing …

Anyway, this picture of Erin shows her in York, England, in 2000. She lived in downtown London for two and a half months, studying some of the arts, literature and humanities some of the time and living the arts, literature and humanities during her sight-seeing the rest of the time. She took in everything England had to offer, watching a lot of theater productions, visiting the Lake District, museums, castles, English gardens, cathedrals, battlefields, Stonehenge and much more. She was also able to travel to Paris, where she walked through the Louvre, Versailles, still more museums and visited the Eiffel Tower.

Thomas has been to Germany (and France, for about 1 minute). He lived there for two years as an LDS missionary and fell in love with the people, culture, food and country (especially the food). He was able to see a lot of famous cathedrals (Worms, Speyer, Mainz), travel and live along some well-known rivers (the Rhine, the Mosel), tour at least 10 castles and eat some really good food (fresh bread, rolls, pretzels, pastries, and anything else from the local bakery; rouladen, bratwurst and doeners, just to whet your appetite). Eating so much food helped Thomas gain 40 pounds after 1.5 years, but during the final 6 months of his stay, he rode a bike in a hilly area and lost almost 50 pounds. This picture shows Thomas in a city called Muenzenberg on a rainy summer day in 1998. The Muenzenberg castle is on the hill in the background.

We both LOVED Europe and keep talking about returning and taking turns being the tour guide in the respective countries we lived in.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DATE?

Erin: It’s a tie between visiting Nine Mile Canyon (picture on our Photos page) and getting engaged in a canoe on the Provo River.

Thomas: Exploring the Goosenecks in Capitol Reef National Park
