This is our beautiful birthmom, Brianna.  She is a really fun person with a hilarious sense of humor.  She is a talented musician and plays the piano and guitar.  She is really interested in science and knows a lot about the human body.  She’s pretty talented in the way of craftiness too.  We think she’s pretty cool.

This Is the Place

In the course of two weeks, we have had Erin’s sister, Erin’s brother, Erin’s parents and 5 nieces visit/stay with us, sandwiched around a family reunion with Thomas’ family. It’s been so much fun and a little crazy! Last Friday, we got together with Thomas’ family and had a barbecue, followed by some outdoor games (soccer, croquet, bocce). On Saturday, we headed out to This is the Place Heritage Park, which was much more exciting that I thought it would be.

Looking at Lambs

The nieces and nephews got to ride some ponies, pet some lambs and pygmy goats and see a couple of male peacocks. We also got to make arrowhead necklaces inside a Native American Hogan, and ride a miniature train with the kids.

Riding Trains

After the park, we headed back to Thomas’ parents house and commenced to have a water fight. It was pretty refreshing for everyone after spending most of the day outside.

We headed home and met up with Erin’s brother and sister-in-law, who have 4 little girls. They have been staying with us the past few days and it’s been very enjoyable. We went to the waterpark two days in a row to take advantage of the sunny weather (and the really fun water slides).  It’s been fun bonding with everyone and meeting our cute little niece Sydney.  She was born in April.  We’ll miss everone when they leave although our house is pretty crazy right now.

“I’ll be right back”

Katelyn caught in the act

Our adorable niece Katelyn visited us over the weekend, along with her parents. At 2 years old, she already has very good manners. Every time her dad changes her diaper, she says “thanks daddy!” But the best indication of her manners comes when she needs to pick her nose. She will say “I’ll be right back,” hide herself around the corner, and begin to pick. This picture, taken from Valentine’s Day of this year, shows that even with her finger up her nose, she’s still pretty cute.

Thomas has been playing on a softball team this spring and summer, and they have reached the championship game in their division. As usual I’ve had a great time watching him play, chatting it up with all the wives and bribing the kids with suckers.  Thomas has had an amazing year being coach and it’s become a fun family tradition with a bunch of our friends during softball season.  Some of our friends are moving away and we are also looking at houses this next year but I hope we’ll still keep this tradition going even with all the changes.

We have more family coming in town this weekend.  I’m so excited to see those little Bastians!  We haven’t met Sydney yet (born this Spring) and I can’t wait to ask Audrey to dance (which is hilarious).    We also have a Grover family reunion.  Now that I’m listing all those things I’m realizing we are going to be busy!  More on all of this later.

A Big Announcement!

Isn't he a cute little thing?

Isn't he a cute little thing?

We have been chosen by an INCREDIBLE birth mother to be adoptive parents! We have been getting to know her over the past few weeks, and she is a wonderful person. It’s been a lot of fun to talk with her, spend some time with her, and get to know her better. We just love her, and think she is amazing.

So, as you can probably guess, we are really excited! She is due in September, and she is having a boy (pictured, at left).

Our lives (and life together) will be changing so much in the coming months, but they are changes that we want and we are looking forward to it.

More to come!
